Is the tv show Rosemary and Thyme based off a book series?

I love that show! I believe the show came first, and then the novels were written based on episodes.

According to the Rosemary and Thyme website:

"...we’ve had some great female characters in this country... ladies of a certain age who are not necessarily in a position of leadership but who have played a huge part in British culture... I hadn’t really seen such women portrayed in drama.

I was also thinking about how to have a detective series which was not purely or even principally about detection.

I put those two ideas together and thought ‘what if you have two lady gardeners?’ I suddenly thought - that’s the way to do it. Also, from a storytelling point of view, I thought the audience would be just as interested in the gardening problem the girls have got to solve as the murder mystery itself. "

Brian Eastman – Producer

According to Wikipedia:

Three novels, written by series creator Brian Eastman and based on episodes of the series, have been published in Britain by Allison and Busby, and in Australia by Hardie Grant Books. These novels are:

1. And No Birds Sing (first published in 2004, and based on the pilot episode)

2. The Tree of Death (first published in 2005, and based on the final episode of Series 1)

3. Memory of Water (first published in 2006, and based on the first episode of Series 2)
