I'm curious to see how the Rosemary turns out, it sounds wonderful!!
Reply:The ones I have are by - Donna Rathmell German. The Bread Machine Cookbook and then II. The first one is really the best as it gives recipes for unusual grains.

The only problem I had was my machine broke down before the books wore out.

May the Culinary Gods be with you ...

Enjoy ...

Does this sound like a good tri tip seasoning?

Rosemary, Lemon Pepper, E.V.O.O, salt, a litte more pepper, and thyme.
Does this sound like a good tri tip seasoning?
Yes, it does. I'd add a little ground cumin too.

I'll be over in a few hours!

Can anyone give me a delicious recipe for lamb shanks ?

Can anyone give me a delicious recipe for lamb shanks ?
This recipe calls for both rosemary and red wine:

Braised Lamb Shanks With Fresh Rosemary

6 lamb shanks (I have also used leg of lamb, ask the butcher to cut it in 1 1/2 in. slices or use a cut-up boneless)

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 medium onions, chopped

3 large carrots, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch thick rounds

10 garlic cloves, minced

1 (750 ml) bottle dry red wine (Sangiovese is good)

1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes with juice

1 (14 1/2 ounce) can low sodium chicken broth

1 (14 1/2 ounce) can beef broth

5 teaspoons chopped fresh rosemary

2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme

2 teaspoons grated lemon zest

Sprinkle lamb with salt and pepper.

Heat oil in heavy, large pot over medium-high heat.

Working in batches, add lamb to pot and cook until brown on all sides, about 8 minutes.

Transfer to bowl.

Remove all but about 2 tablespoons of oil from pan.

Add onions, carrots, and garlic to pot and sauté till golden, about 10 minute.

Stir in all remaining ingredients.

Return lamb to pot, pressing down to submerge.

Bring liquid to boil, reduce heat to medium low, and cover.

Simmer until meat is tender, about 2 hours.

Uncover pot; simmer till meat is very tender, about 30 minutes.

(Can be made 1 day ahead. Chill until cold, cover, and keep chilled. Rewarm over medium heat before continuing.) Transfer lamb to platter; tent with foil.

Boil juices in pot till thickened, about 15 minutes.

Season with salt and pepper and spoon over lamb.
Reply:Braised Lamb Shanks

6 lamb shanks (trimmed of fat)

1 large onion

4 garlic cloves

3 cups beef stock

1 cup red wine

1 tablespoon italian seasoning

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1/2 cup flour

1 teaspoon fresh coarse ground black pepper

4 bay leaves

salt and pepper

Combine flour and pepper in large ziplock bag (I used a freezer bag).

Dredge lamb shanks in flour.

Thinly slice onion, mince garlic.

Heat oil in large frying pan.

Fry shanks until golden brown on each side.

Turn with tongs.

Place shanks in Dutch Oven, or large oven proof pot with lid.

Add minced garlic and bay leaves to pot.

Add onion slices to frying pan.

Cook stirring occasionally until onion is soft.

Add red wine to frying pan.

Cook stirring occasionally until slightly syrupy, approximately five minutes.

Pour onion mixture over shanks.

Sprinkle Italian seasoning over shanks.

Pour beef stock into pot.

Cook in 375 F oven for 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.

Reply:Go to a health food store and ask, I was taking feverfew for migranes and to stop b/c it causes miscarriages so you never know....
Reply:I would be concerned about the ginsing. Talk to your doctor.
Reply:I agree with singitout about ginseng. It has steroids in it, which is what makes it effective, but not good during pregnancy. The others are fine. Most cooking herbs are fine, but check medicinal herbs of any sort, they may not be good for you now.
Reply:please...no ginsing. it has been shown to cause defects in children when the mother takes it during pregnancy. there are other herbs that are safe. check out the two websites below. they will give you more info on this.
Reply:No Ginsing but the thyme, rosemary and mint are fine

You can always try through the French White pages (here is a link to the English version http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/pb.cgi?lang=en...

I would have done the search for you but I can't figure out which was the last name!

    Herb gardeners Please Help me?

I have been growing some herbs that started as seeds last February. They are all straggly. I pinched back the basil already because I found instructions here on how to do this. I also have:

    Thyme (in ground)

    The rest are potted.

    Dill

    Cilantro

    Italian Parsley

Chives (not doing well, only two stalks)

    Marjoram

    Basil

The birds ate my Rosemary. Bad birds.

These are mostly all outside in pots. I have some in pots still inside. Of course, I've never done this before.

    Thanks for your help.

PS I'm in New York City, if that matters.
    Herb gardeners Please Help me?
All of your plants, EXCEPT the cilantro, need more sun and warmth. Next year, I would not start the seeds quite so early. If you planted them in March or April, they would be ready to go outside (late April or May) when it starts to warm up in NYC.

Cilantro is the only plant listed that likes cool weather. You might try sowing some seeds again in the fall. Then they will have cool weather as they grow.

Parsley takes a LOOONNNGG time to grow from seed. It usually takes about a month to sprout!! I always grow mine from seedlings!

Chives take awhile to get going also. Put them in a sunny spot and keep watering. My onion chives are blooming now (in the ground in California)--- very lovely purple. I think that they will grow outside in the winter in your area, but you might want to put them in a protected plant and cover them.

Thyme, marjoram, chives and rosemary are perennials. They like sun and heat in the summer, but will overwinter. The marjoram will LOOK like it has died off, but it will return the next year.

Dill, cilantro, parsley and basil are all annuals and will have to be planted again next spring. (Hint: let your plants go to seed at the end of the season and save the seeds for next year).

    Good Luck!!
Reply:Sounds like they are not getting any sun . If you grew them from seeds, you are doing 'something' right ! LOL

Hang in there and give them more light . You'll have so much you'll be sharing them with us . Oh yes, and DO fertilize them . I use any old kind . They really need that .
Reply:Your plants are not getting enough sunlight.

What's the scarier movie.....The Exorcist, The Omen OR Rosemary's Baby?

The Exorcist by far -- scared the hell out of me, and can you imagine being a 9 year old and watch something like that in the middle of the night? I was scared to the point of not being able to sleep well for weeks! And I think the part where linda blair used the crucifix to "you know" is just beyond repulsive! I'll never ever watch that movie ever again as long as I live.
What's the scarier movie.....The Exorcist, The Omen OR Rosemary's Baby?
you can't beat The Exorcist. Especially with the added parts there just put in...the scene where Regan's spider walking down the stairs scares me just to THINK about! Report It
Reply:Rosemary's Baby is more suspenseful, thus scarier...

    Reply:The exorcist! Had nightmares
Reply:Exorcist. Because it's sort of plausible. And they did some original things in it, so it was genuinely unnerving.

The action in Omen wasn't nearly as bloodcurdlingly freaky ... although it was creepy it felt kind of manipulative and predictable compared to Exorcist. Rosemary's Baby was more funny than really terrifying, although I mean that in a good way.

The Omen ( original one) was okay.

It would be Rosemary's Baby for me
Reply:The Exorcist....i had to be sedated to sleep after i saw that!!!!!
Reply:The Exorcist by far.I think because it was a true story.I'm from D.C and the real house is still up in Georgetown. And it happened to a teenage boy and not a girl.
Reply:When you are referring to more than two topics, it would be "Scariest." Sorry.....hope that doesn't offend you.

NOW.....the BOOK of "The Exorcist" scared the heck out of me...more so than the movie. "Rosemary's Baby" was scarey. But I would have to say, "The Omen"..I never saw it because I knew it would be too scarey.

    Answer= "The Omen."
Reply:Personally, I think The Exorcist. It's so funny you ask that, I happen to be watching it right now on AMC. LOL.

The other movies are great too, but The Exorcist has that special little something extra.
Reply:I saw the Exorcist in Hollywood when it first came out. It scared the living crap out of me. When I saw the original Omen, it scared the crap out of me too! Rosemary's Baby is a really bizarre movie but it didn't really scare me. I would have to say that the Exorcist scared me the worst.
    Reply:The Exorcist.
Reply:I've never sat through the entire film of "The Exorcist". The film just freaks me out! However, "The Omen" really isn't that scary. And as for "Rosemary's Baby", I haven't seen that one either, but as I recall, it ranks right up there as fairly scary.

So, to answer this question, "The Exorcist" wins hand down, yes.
    Reply:The Exorcist!!!!

Though the others are very good also. NOTHING beats the Exorcist!
Reply:I could watch the Exorcist, i never saw Rosemary's Baby.. but for some reason I couldn't watch the Omen... something about the little kid and those eyes...damn..
    Reply:The Exorcist.
Reply:The original Exorcist (1973). Did you know that while making the movie, they had some weird stuff going on? The girl who played the little girl (in the original) died, and so did the guy who played the priest! Apparently they also had some sets falling on people and other weird stuff.

The true story began in January 1949 and involved a 13-year-old boy named Robbie who lived with his parents and grandmother in Mt. Rainier, Maryland. Robbie was very close to his aunt who visited the family frequently from St. Louis, Missouri. She was a medium and attempted to communicate with the spirit world. Not only did she spark Robbie’s interest in this practise, she also taught him how to use the Ouija board.

Strange phenomena began happening on Jan. 10, 1949. The family heard scratching on the walls; however, exterminators found no evidence of pests of any kind. Objects moved by themselves: a table would turn over, a chair would move across the room, a vase would fly through the air, and a picture of Christ would shake. At night, Robbie felt scratching in his bed, and he suffered nightmares frequently.

Reply:i think it is scary because of its subject matter--it really made me feel creeped out and unsettled after seeing it. i definitely found it scarier than the Omen or similar "devil baby" movies, for lack of a better term. the book is much scarier because you get the whole background of the characters and why they are they way the are. the scariest to me is The Shining, if you haven't seen it you should.
    Reply:Aloha from Down Unda!

You should see it for the opportunity to rank it in your own terms.

When I saw it many, many years ago, I was impressed how it depicted some of the charactors as exceptionally 'odd' in behaviours %26amp; mannerisms.

It's on par with things like 'The Omen', 'Poltergeist', 'The Exorcist' %26amp; fairly mater of factly 'creepomatic'.

I need biological information on the plant "rosemary"! Thanks:)?

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is a woody, perennial herb with fragrant evergreen needle-like leaves. It is native to the Mediterranean region. It is a member of the mint family Lamiaceae, which also includes many other herbs. Forms range from upright to trailing; the upright forms can reach 1.5 m tall, rarely 2 m. The leaves are evergreen, 2-4 cm long and 2-5 mm broad, green above, and white below with dense short woolly hairs. The flowers are variable in colour, being white, pink, purple, or blue.

The name rosemary has nothing to do with the rose or Mary, but derives from the Latin name rosmarinus, which is presumed to mean "dew of the sea", though some think it too may be derived from an earlier name.
I need biological information on the plant "rosemary"! Thanks:)?
Today we have our modern explanation of rosemary’s ability to preserve. It turns out that plant contains powerful antioxidants which slow the cell breakdown that causes decay and spoilage--antioxidants so potent that Japanese researchers have used rosemary as a replacement for chemical preservatives. German scientists have found that these same chemicals also help to slow the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain, and may retard memory loss in early-stage Alzheimer's victims. One American herbalist even suggests that the traditional rosemary rinse that makes your hair shiny may also help you remember to buy shampoo.

So there you are--rosemary, an old herb for a new century.

Minnie mentions briefly that Terry got scared when they talked to her about the baby and so she threw herself out the window. Did they originally intend her to carry Satan's child? Was that why they gave her the tannis root charm?
    Question about Rosemary's Baby- Book?
    yes.

Who sung "Rosemary Blue" other than Neil Sedaka?

Perry Como, for one, even though it was apparently never released:

Most of the ones you listed can be found fresh at your local supermarket. You can actually grow a small herb garden this time of year with some good lighting and a warm window sill. You should be able to find all of these in dried form, although I would pass on the dried chives and the dried parsley. These two don't maintain their fresh flavors after they've been dried. Thyme, dill, oregano, mint and rosemary hold up really well after drying. Hope that helps!
Reply:pass, but if you go to your local market or supermarket they will probably have what you are looking for , usually dried or fresh... i don't usually have any problems finding what i am looking for.

if you wanted to grow your own, I'd buy a little window ledge green house thing....my sister loves to eat of all things cress, she grows hers all year round. i suppose if you provide all the right conditions they would grow....

Can anyone suggest a good way to prepare Tuna Steaks? my husband doesn't like rosemary, so that's out.
    Tuna Steak recipe suggestion?
Because good grade tuna is such an expensive fish ( if you bought "Ahi") it should be eaten RARE only!

Also it shouldn't be masked with all kinds of sauces that will kill the taste of the Tuna.

Make it simple so he tastes the fish.

Coat the edges with sesame seeds and grill 30 to 45 seconds( depending on the thickness of the steak).

Teryaki on the side and that's it.

The tuna should be almost raw in the center( if you cooked it right).

    And yes

    It's Safe.

    Good luck.

    2 tbsp. dried cilantro

    1 tbsp. chili powder

    1 tsp. black pepper

    1 tbsp. mustard seeds

    4 to 6 tuna steaks

Mix ingredients and brush onto tuna steak. Refrigerate for several hours. Grill for 4 minutes per side or until steaks just begin to flake
Reply:Fry very quickly so that they're just cooked. Don't overcook tuna! Serve with cous-cous and loads of home made salsa (I throw together really good quality fresh tomatoes, sliced bell peppers, a little bit of fresh chilli, fresh coriander (or cilantro as I think you guys call it), garlic, red onion, cucumber, lots of olive oil - left in the fridge to let the flavours come out)
Reply:I either grill or fry my tuna steaks and just as they are ready, drop a spoonful of green or red pesto over each one and allow it to drizzle down before serving. The difference between green and red is the presence of tomato puree in the red; otherwise it is mostly basil, olive oil and pine nuts with a little parmesan cheese.

I need a wine buff please! What wine will go with the following dishes?

Cost doesn't matter at all, I have access to an excellent vintner so......First course is:

Lobster starter, with a creamy champagne sauce (actually we can drink champagne with that

    Main course:

Roast Crown of lamb with rosemary and garlic, redcurrent jus, baby new potatoes and asparagus

    Pud:

    Lemony raspberry cheesecake
I need a wine buff please! What wine will go with the following dishes?
With the lobster a good New Zealand sauvignon blanc such as cloudy bay if you can get it or most from the marlborough district and with the lamb a lovely pinot noir. Again i would go for a New Zealand as they will not let you down and unfortunately some of the even classic french types can just when you need them to be good. Unless you really want to change keep on with the pinot noir for desert also it will work excellently with fruity cheesecakes. I wouldn't use a desert wine as i think it would be too cloying. p.s. how about an invite? I'm drooling!
Reply:Hope you enjoy your meal, shop prices here for cloudy bay around £32. per bottle but we have an excellent family owned restaurant near us who charge £26. Obviously we drink it at that price! Report It
Reply:For the first course, a Champagne would be absolutely brilliant. The Lobster sounds more rich than complex, so you could go with a very good vintage Champagne.

For the main course, the asparagus poses the biggest issue. The strong, astringent character of asparagus will lay waste to subtle wines. I'd also shy away from complex wines. Even with a high buget, I wouldn't go overboard given all the very strong flavors. I'd consider a California Zin or an Aussie Shiraz, but get a brawny one.

I like the Sauternes idea for the dessert as well.
Reply:Hello sweetie! :o) xxx Well, I must say this menu sounds absolutely gorgeous! I am in agreement with you here, I think champagne would be absolutely brilliant with the lobster starter - the crispness of the wine will complement this gorgeous dish beautifully I think. (I'm not a wine buff myself hon, but have asked my big bro's advice on this - because he most definitely is!!) I know a little about wine and cooking, so can offer my advice too :o) xxx) For the gorgeous lamb, you need a nice, smooth red wine to accompany it, maybe something along the lines of a classy French, full-bodied Red (Chateau Neuf du Pape) or something similar - I think it will go really nicely with your lamb, as it's velvety and smooth, but not too "in your face" for a better way of putting it! xxx Well, to go with your lemony cheesecake, hows about a lovely sweet Sauternes - that is the best dessert wine in my book (It's not too sticky or sickly sweet) and I think a little glass of that would round the meal off nicely - the sweetness will contrast with the gorgeous tartness of the cheesecake! xxx Hope this helps honey - save some for meeee, because I love crown of lamb! :o) xxxxxxx

Good side dish to go with a caribbean shrimp recipe?
Yup that sounds so good. I would make a coconut cilantro rice. You can use either plain white rice or a rice pilaf that had dried seasonings/herbs in it. I substitute unsweetened coconut milk with a little bit of chicken broth for the water when making the rice and then add the cilantro (toasted coconut if you like) at the end when it is done cooking. If you don't like cilantro you can use parsley. I would also go with like a mango or pineapple salsa with red onion, cilantro, red or yellow bell pepper, lime, little bit of garlic powder, salt and if you like it hot a jalepeno or habanero. Also fried plantains. Now my mouth is watering
Reply:rice is very popular dish in the caribbean, or do some fried plantains, black eyed peas, or grill some veggies.
Reply:3 pounds christophene, peeled, seeded and cut into cubes (can substitute chayote or any summer squash)

    4 tablespoons butter

    4 tablespoons flour

    1 1/4 cups milk

1/2 cup grated Monterey jack or Cheddar cheese, plus 1 cup, for topping

    1 onion, finely chopped

    2 cloves garlic, finely chopped

    1 teaspoon salt

    1 tablespoon chopped celery

    2 teaspoons prepared mustard

    2 tablespoons sugar

Fill a large pot with water and add a little salt. Bring the water to a boil, then add the cubed squash and cook until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain the cooked squash and set aside in a large, well-greased baking dish.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Slowly whisk in the flour and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, until the mixture is creamy and thick. Slowly stir in the milk and mix until smooth, about 1 minute. Add the 1/2 cup of grated cheese and stir until melted and well-mixed, about 1 minute. Add the onion, garlic, salt, celery, mustard and sugar to the sauce and mix well. Remove the sauce from heat and pour over the christophene in the baking dish. Stir everything together, then top with the remainig 1 cup grated cheese.

Place the mixture in the oven and bake until golden brown, about 20 to 30 minutes. Serve warm.

However, she's not the only one:

Sarah Brightman and Claire Sweeney have tackled the song as well.

Are you thinking of "Scarborough Faire"? If that's the case, it's a traditional song and thousands of people have done it.

Reply:I believe the song you're thinking of is Scarborough Fair-which many artists have done covers of. One female singer that I know has done a cover of Scarborough Fair is Sarah Brightman.
    Reply:here's some info:

Some people know the version of this song done by Sarah Brightman. Though she omits most of the lyrics that are given above, the lyrics that are in her song are reproduced here accurately. Other artists who have performed the song include but are not limited to: Simon and Garfunkel, Delfonics, Vicky Leandros (who also recorded a French, German and Greek version), Brian Klauss (on his self-produced album Folksinger), Hannah Fury, Sergio Mendes %26amp; Brasil '66, Wes Montgomery, Al Di Meola, Herbie Hancock, Nana Mouskouri, Queensr?che, Martin Carthy, Marianne Faithfull, Harry Belafonte, Roger Whittaker, Midori, Medwyn Goodall, Johnny Dean, Urban Trad, the Mediaeval Baebes, Triniti, Hayley Westenra (with Celtic Woman), K.I.A., Luar na Lubre, M?go de Oz (whose Spanish version carries the title "Duerme... (canción de cuna)"), Aya Matsuura, the Italian singer and composer Angelo Branduardi and, most recently, a young Japanese artist named Yuki Otake (whose version starts each stanza with the English lyrics, most of which are listed above, and then finishes with a Japanese translation). It also seems to have heavily inspired the Stone Roses song "Elizabeth My Dear", whose melody is very similar. The song was also recorded by the Dutch band Brainbox, Sea Level, the Allman Brothers Band offshoot formed by Chuck Leavell, Jai Johanny Johanson, Lamar Williams and Jimmy Nalls recorded an instrumental version on their 1977 debut album. It was also recorded by British singer Amy Nuttall from her debut album Best Days. Carly Simon included the tune on her 2007 album Into White.

Hannah Fury has recorded her own version, a 'soul-shredded' version called Scars. It features lyrics that are twisted in some way. An example is the opening verse:

Please don't go to Scarborough Fair

    Violets, roses, thistles and vines

Remember me, I am still here

He was not a true love of mine

Electronica artists The KGBs have done a version called "Infinity", featured on theHardstyle Techno compilation Italian Hardstyle 9 by DJ TechnoBoy. It features a typical Hardstyle beat with a crossfade of the first two verses looped over and over.

    How to grow herbs?

I have never gardened ever! but want some fresh herbs to cook with this summer. Where is the best place to buy seeds? Where should be be planted? how much do I water them?

I am wanting to plant thyme, rosemary, mint, parsley...just a couple of things. Any advice??
    How to grow herbs?
Oh, if you love cooking you'll have a lot of fun with herbs. I've never grown anything from seeds before, but most of the herbs I have planted will self-seed as annuals (plants that die after a season).

For most kinds off cooking, you'll need rosemary, basil, oregano, thyme, parsley and sage.

Each of these needs lots of sun, so plant them in a sunny spot of your yard or keep them in a north-facing window of your house. Don't over-water them, just give them a drink now and then, keeping in mind that too much water will rot the roots.

When you transplant the plants (which should cost you about $1.50 per plant most places), massage the roots a bit after removing them from the container. This will help the roots spread once you plant them.

The rosemary and basil will likely be the first ones to show rapid growth. You can pinch rosemary stalks into whatever shape you want. Just cut what you need as you need it, but try to do it in the morning because trimming the plants at night can encourage disease.

The oregano tastes much better when dried. You can dry the leaves in a little baggie, or in the microwave. Sprinkle it on pasta and pizza.

The sage, parsley and thyme are good for soups, stews and slow-cooking dishes. Sage is the exception to the rule of putting the herbs in just before you're done cooking. Basil is just the opposite.

Herbs are great because they aren't too picky about growing conditions. Oregano especially will thrive even in poor soil. If you choose to plant any mint, keep in mind that it has a habit of taking over gardens, so harvest it regularly and treat yourself to some mint tea! Dried mint brews better than fresh, but you can make a mean mojito with fresh mint.

If you have any more questions, e-mail me. Enjoy!
Reply:Had to chuckle when I read your question....I'm in the same boat. I just went to Wal-Mart and bought some starter herb plants. I have sweet basil, thyme, mint, rosemary, dill, %26amp; oregano. I bought some potting soil, put in a pot and buried the roots. I water when it appears to be dry. Herbs, from what I've read, appreciate full sun. Now, other than that, I know basically nothing either. But, the good news is that you don't have to start with seeds....now, if only I knew how to COOK with fresh herbs I'd be delirious. Experimentation, I guess.
Reply:Many retail grocery/department stores will carry seeds in their gardening areas. Places like Target, Meijer, WalMart (I assume, although I've not been there,) and the like. Herbs are generally relatively easy to grow, and can be grown either outside in a garden or inside in containers (flower pots, empty yogurt cups with drainage holes poked in the bottom, etc.) If you buy the seeds in a packet, there should be growing instructions on the package somewhere. I have also seen, although nowhere near as often as the seeds, pre-started herbs grown in little containers. Those tend to cost a little more than seeds, but instead of planting and all such work, with those the plant is already there and you just have to use it and try to keep it alive. I hope this helps.

What should I do if I want to start an herb garden?

mostly cooking and medicinal herbs; aloe, basil, cilantro, oregano, lavender, rosemary
What should I do if I want to start an herb garden?
    1. Find out what zone you're in (it's based on how warm and cold it gets). You can find this out online at the website below. This is important if you are growing perennials, not so important for annuals. If you want to grow them inside, then obviously this doesn't matter.

    2. Make a list of the herbs you want to grow.

    3. Research the list to find out what kind of conditions the different herbs require. For example, basil is very sensitive to cold, so it is an annual in many places. It needs rich soil and needs to be watered frequently. On the other hand, thyme needs poor soil, should be kept fairly dry, can tolerate cold weather, and is a perennial. You also need to be aware of their sun requirements.

    4. You can dedicate a single bed to your herbs, or you can incorporate them into a flower garden or vegetable garden. You can even put them in a pot on your patio.

    5. I strongly recommend getting a book on herbs. I included links to some good ones below.

    6. Enjoy your garden!
    Reply:Most herbs like full sun.

    Most herbs like well-drained soil.

One way to start would be to get 4 boards, 4"x4" 8 ft long, or railroad ties (nothing with creosote or poisonous pressure treated!!!) and set them into the ground a bit to form a square. You can do this over bare dirt or even lawn. Fill the square with loam/sand mixture and pack it gently. Add a few stones to step on, and plant your seedlings or seeds!

Even easier would be to get a shovel and loosen up some decent soil to 8 or 12 inches in a sunny spot and plant away.
Reply:you can buy the little starter kits, usually at a greenhouse, or maybe at a hardware or drug store. or else, you can buy the seeds and get some small pots. the smaller the better, when they grow some, then you can switch them to a larger pot. you can buy almost any kind of plant that you want. make sure that you plant them in a sunny window, and no drafts on them either. when you water the seedlings, i suggest you use a spray bottle, just mist them, ok?, good luck!,susyq47
Reply:Wow, there are so many undefined variables in your question.

How much land are you willing to dedicate is the first question. Or, are you going to 'container garden', meaning gardening exclusively in plastic or terra cotta pots. Do you want it to be organic, or will you use pesticides and chemical fertilizers? And, what kind of soil do you plan to work: clay, sandy or loamy?

My recommendation for a first time gardener is to test your green thumb. Which really means to test your level of commitment. It would be a shame if you went through a whole lot of work to later decide that it's not for you.

Try container gardening first. Pick up some containers, some good quality potting soil, fertilizer (I swear by 'Alaska Fish Fertilizer' and 'Alaska More Bloom') and a small bag of vermiculite. Mix up the dry ingredients and fill your pots to about 2" from the top. Place your seeds. Cover with a layer of dry planting mixture, and gently pat down. Then, start watering.

If you want to start out bigger, you can choose a plot of land for your garden. You'll need to ready the soil. Good soil amendments make or break a garden.

Garden placement (whether container or plot) should be near a water source. If it's too far from your spigot, you're more likely to forget to water.

Once your soil is prepared, purchase good quality seeds and plant them. Growing from seed requires consistent moisture levels until the seeds sprout. So, you'll need to water every day, at least once per day depending on your climate.

Any specific questions you can address with a local nursery. It's in their best interest to create a repeat customer in you. So, do let them know that you're a beginner. I believe you'll be amazed at how helpful the staff will be.

Enjoy your gardening adventure. It's extremely rewarding.
Reply:i would start it indoors in small pots and move it outside. i put my herbs in between flowers right outside my front door so they get some sun, but don't fry and so i just have to step outside the door to get some when i want to cook with them.

    no
Reply:It would depend on what you consider "different" versions. There is the origional movie, from 1968. There are also, "edited" versions of the movie. The origional movie was rated "R", and had to be toned down for TV.

    Lemon, rosemary, and lavendar?

can i mix these essential oils together into a basin of water? of which ones are best for your feet?
    Lemon, rosemary, and lavendar?
Yes certainly be mixed together. that particular combo is very good for feeling stressed and improving concentration. for the feet lemon is good as an antiseptic, rosemary to improve blood flow and circulation and lavender for soothing the nerves of the feet and pain relief.
Reply:Yes you can mix them. Rosemary essential oil should not be used if you are pregnant, have seizure disorder, or high blood pressure. As far as best for your feet, I guess that depends on what is troubling you about your feet. For general aches, the mix you asked about is great.

    How to make rosemary tea?

    to treat skin infections
    How to make rosemary tea?
You can easily make your own rosemary tea by putting two tablespoons of fresh rosemary or one tablespoon of dried rosemary in a mug. Pound the rosemary lightly to release the aroma, then add one cup boiling water. Steep, covered, to desired strength. This is "drinking strength" tea -- if you are going to use it on the skin, you may want to make it stronger.

Although rosemary is a "good for what ails you" all-purpose herb, I am not familiar with using it as a treatment for skin infections. Perhaps oil of rosemary (which should not be used internally) would be better??

    A few mint leaves

    A few sprigs of rosemary.

I only have mint flakes and rosemary leaves.

but th recipe says mint leaves and rosmary sprigs
How much of these herbs do I need for my tea recipe?
I would say that you need to experiment with the tea recipe. Start off with a small amount of both herbs and increase the amount each time until you get the herbs adjusted to your taste.
Reply:The recipe is written for fresh herbs, not dried. Dried herbs and fresh herbs do not taste the same so you won't get the same results if you use dried. If this is a recipe where you have to steep the herbs in the spring water, you could try tieing the dried herbs in a coffee filter or cheesecloth and then steep them.

I would equate a few mint leaves to 5 or 6 and a few sprigs of rosemary to 2 or 3 3-inch sprigs. Dried, well maybe 1/2 tsp of mint and 1/4 tsp of rosemary.

If the herbs are not steeped, using dried herbs may not work to well.

How can Josef fritzl's wife not have known???

Apparently, josef fritzl's wife and other members of the family did not know what was going on for decades.

I find this unbelivable that his wife did not know.

How do you think this could be?

Could she be a passive vulnerable to lies, a passive woman to crimes or involved as women in such crimes are?...

    Rosemary West, Myra Hindley, etc.
How can Josef fritzl's wife not have known???
well thats what i thought too. That maybe she did know.

    It could be

    A. she was too scared to question him as he was apparently quite dictatorial ( is that a word) and frightenened to speak against him

    B. She was suspicious and didnt know how to speak to the authorities.

    C. They lived on the 2nd floor and was totally unaware of the basement.

D.Psychologically in denial that her husband could do such a thing - continued to play the role of traditional housewife
Reply:Aparantly Josef Fitzl was a man who had authority in the house, very controlling, he was ultimately - the boss.

Perhaps his wife was not in a position to question anything and genuinally didnt realize what was going on.

I know if it was my mum or any other mum, if their 18 year old daughter went missing, with an explaniatory note or not, they would look until the end of the earth until they find the child and seeing as she obviously didnt, shows that Fitzl must have influenced her in some way.

Fitzl probobly had a great deal of control over his wife and children and made the decision for the family to not try and find the daughter.

Lets just hope there is justice. Only this monster knows the answers to all questions.
Reply:Out of all that I have seen in such cases, I have my own version of this whole incest matter:

Josef's wife had been with an other guy as he was a despicable authoritarian. So he was not the real father of Elisabeth and started to abuse her at the early age of 11. When his wife was found disloyal and bearing an illegitimate child she was so much paralyzed by shame and fear that thought better to keep quite and shut her eyes.
Reply:This question brings up more questions, How could he have feed them all these years without his wife asking where all the money is going? She ran an inn by a lake, she had to have some clue to the actual costs of food financially... though Josef was an authoritarian, she should had to suspect something wrong. but then you look at even governments that push their propaganda to the people, and people are willing to accept it, even when the evidence is to the contrary.

Yes I mean the Bush administration.
Reply:Denial is such a captive state to be in. Ask the partners of alcoholics, sex addicts, gamblers. "He's just having a few drinks." "She's only flirting." "He lost a little money at the race tracks."

A close relative of mine continues to deny that her husband is a philanderer. After 54 years of marriage and countless affairs, he is still the same little playboy and she sees him only as a loving and fun guy. People have tried time and again to let her know that he has fathered an illegitimate child and that his mistress is counting on getting a lion's share of his assets when he dies. She refuses to entertain these as possibly true.

So I can understand how Josef Fritzl's family convinced themselves that there was nothing wrong. I'm glad this has come out and I hope it will allow us to examine our own games of denial, and decide if there is anything we can do to ease someone else's suffering.

24 years in a dungeon. Man, what a nightmare.
Reply:totally agree with sitinher; of course she knew, lets face it if your husband disappeared from the house for hours, if food was going missing and 3 kids turned up on the doorstep [even with a note attatched] would you not question it?? im sure we all would, and it is no coincidence that rosemary west and myra hindley swore blind they knew nothing..............and look what those 2 did!

i feel for the children of this monster, but hey he is austrian and they are well known in producing control freek dictators. may he rot in jail ,but this is too good for him.
Reply:Hard to believe she didn't know, what women would not get suspicious of something when her husband puts a lock on the basement door that he and he alone has the password to and she is not allowed to go down there.

And her own daughter that she gave birth to disappears and then her children pop up out of no were, she must be the stupidest woman on the face of the planet or heavily medicated.
Reply:I said the same thing myself, when posted this yesterday, how could he have kept it secret, feed the children, get them clothes, he would have had to have gone to stores, extra food and now it looks like there is another property being looked at, this is one grisly story.
Reply:I cannot believe she did`nt know. Did`nt she notice her husband spending so much time in the basement? I`d think normal people would ask what their husband is doing in thebasement. Then, she brought up these 3 abandoned children left with notes from their mother saying she could`nt cope. It`s my opinion that she is an accesorry to these heinous crimes.
Reply:This Woman is either as thick as two short planks, or she is keeping her mouth shut. In any case she should go with him to Jail, because how could she not know. ? I do not think she can bluff her way out of this hideous crime, with any excuse.
Reply:It's very hard to believe that she didn't know anything at all was up. I think it maybe that she was afraid of her husband and just stuck her head in the sand over his bizarre behaviour in the celler.

Still it doesn't excuse her not doig more.

I need a recipe for lamb chops?
I have tried both of these recipes and I love both!! Hope you like: The first one you can do in a skillet, the other is for the oven, but the recipe is sooo good I thought I would share anyways...

    Lamb Chops with Balsamic Reduction

    1/4 teaspoon dried basil

    1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

    salt and pepper to taste

4 lamb chops (3/4 inch thick)

    1 tablespoon olive oil

    1/4 cup minced shallots

    1/3 cup aged balsamic vinegar

    3/4 cup chicken broth

    1 tablespoon butter

In a small bowl or cup, mix together the basil, thyme, salt and pepper. Rub this mixture onto the lamb chops on both sides. Place them on a plate, cover and set aside for 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place lamb chops in the skillet, and cook for about 3 1/2 minutes per side for medium rare, or continue to cook to your desired doneness. Remove from the skillet, and keep warm on a serving platter.

Add shallots to the skillet, and cook for a few minutes, just until browned. Stir in vinegar, scraping any bits of lamb from the bottom of the skillet, then stir in the chicken broth. Continue to cook and stir over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, until the sauce has reduced by half. If you don't, the sauce will be runny and not good. Remove from heat, and stir in the butter. Pour over the lamb chops, and serve.

    Vietnamese Aromatic Lamb Chops

    INGREDIENTS

15 (3 ounce) lamb loin chops (1-inch thick)

    2 cloves garlic, sliced

1 teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste

    1 pinch chili powder

    2 tablespoons white sugar

freshly ground black pepper to taste

    1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

    1 tablespoon soy sauce

    2 tablespoons olive oil

    1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

    2 lime wedges

    2 lemon wedges

Place the lamb chops into a roasting pan, and season evenly with the garlic, garlic powder, chili powder, sugar, salt, and pepper. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of lime juice, soy sauce and olive oil. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Allow the lamb to stand at room temperature while the oven preheats.

Roast uncovered in the preheated oven to your desired degree of doneness, about 20 minutes for medium, or 30 minutes for well done. Garnish with a sprinkle of cilantro and squeeze lemon and lime juice over the top before serving.
Reply:Salt %26amp; pepper, some oregano, a squeeze of lemon juice and garlic powder. But not too much of these things. Can anybody send me some culinary herbs seeds?

I would like to plant some herbs for the kitchen garden. But most of these herbs are not available in my provincial town of South Cotabato, Philippines. Can anybody send some seeds of rosemary, cilantro, thyme, mint, parsley, etc.

Help me with my herb garden?

I have an indoor herb garden consisting of Rosemary, Tyme and Parsley. I planted them a few weeks ago but they don't seem to be growing, in fact they seem to be dying. They have a good amount of sunshine and water, but they also sit in front of my air conditioner that runs constantly at 70. could this be whats killing them?
Help me with my herb garden?
Get them away from that air conditioner, it's drying them out. If they die, you will be charged with plantacide for goodness sakes.

But what do I know, I'm just "The Really Old Guy".
Reply:Kitchen herbs prefer growing outdoors .

Can you have an outdoor window box or just a flower pot with your favourite herbs?
Reply:Its very possible the constant breeze from the air conditioner is drying out the plants faster than they can absorb water. You should move them.

Whats the best way to search for detailed book reviews?

im researching for my critical literary reasearch paper over THE LIGHT BEYOND THE FOREST by ROSEMARY SUTCLIFF. ive used search engines such as google and i cant seem to find anything useful. the reviews i do find require payment to view the whole article. im sure there is information our there or i wouldnt have been assigned this book. i just need some help finding it.
Whats the best way to search for detailed book reviews?
Well, you could try Barnes %26amp; Nobles website. But try and find a professional critics website, like Ebert's (don't go there though, I think he's just a movie critic). That's all the help I can give sorry.
Reply:If I could, Jen C, I'd give these points to you. Report It

Which works? Slimming World, Weightwatchers or Rosemary Conley?

I want to lose four stones by Christmas 2007. I have messed about and not stuck to Weightwatchers for the last two years with no results whatsoever. Will Slimming World work for me? What foods would work for packed lunches at work? Has anyone succeeded in losing significant amounts of weight with Slimming World and how long did it take? Sorry for all the questions but I am loathe to go and pay to join and find it is not for me.
Which works? Slimming World, Weightwatchers or Rosemary Conley?
well ive heard that weight watchers does work. it pretty effective and you should try it. Good luck with your goal!
Reply:Many people ask me how they can slim down. I recommend that people eat right and exercise. However, if they would like a little "help", I suggest using natural Hoodia (it's important to note that not all Hoodia works well, even if the bottle says "pure" or "standard").

The Hoodia sold at http://301url.com/free-diet-pills is in my opinion the best Hoodia on the market. It's pure, has no side effects, and they give you a free 15 day sample (there is a $7.99 shipping and handling charge, but they also give you free recipe and diet guides). Fantastic results have been seen with this particular Hoodia.

mmmm fad diets do not work!! There are so many well marketed yet under performing diets that are simply money grabbing!!

My wife used an online weight loss program by Australian Lifestyle %26amp; Fitness http://www.alfitness.com.au

that gave me low gi meal plans that i could print off and follow. She read about it in womens health magazine.
Reply:why not just stick to portion control and regular exercise instead...who wants fad diets??

Instead of saying Rosemary's Can I just use it to spice the Chicken?

If you like that kind of thing. Personally, I prefer a good lemon chicken or else chicken fingers with mustard sauce.

Dang good book, I would recommend it to anyone, I would not say that there is a bunch of vulgar words, but satanic and strange....I thought about reading the sequel book, but I don't know if it will be as good, didn't it take her like 15 years to write it?
