How do you "Pinch Basil?"?

First time herb grower, here! I've heard you're supposed to "pinch basil" in order to get it to grow bushy-er, rather than a straight stalk. Can someone please explain what that means, exactly? Also, any tips for growing bushy Rosemary, as opposed to a straight talk? Thank you in advance for the advice!

With your fingers just pinch off the growing tips. If you do the same with rosemary, it should also bush out.
Reply:Pinching basil is really easy. take the plant and go about three groups of leaves down from the top, pinch just above the third set of leaves. (make sure you either dry or freeze what you pinched off..it's usable!) Eventually side shoots will form. As they get longer, you can do the same to them. This will keep encouraging side shoots to form. Pinching rosemary is about the same...only it's easier to use scissors.
