This question was removed so it will be repeated. Have you seen this letter written by Rosemary Labonte?

Dear Editor: So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statute of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry. Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home. They had waved good bye to their birth place

That is the trouble they don't want to assimilate anymore especially the Cubans and the Mexicans, their have been Cubans here for 30 years and still can't speak one word of English. This will destroy our nation, just like it destroyed Rome, they had so many different people that did not assimilate it tore them apart. Same thing with Europe they are not assimilating their either.
Reply:America came out of land grabbing abusive murderers and thefts. Report It
Reply:I can not say anymore then what has been posted already. This is a great letter and should not have been removed.
Reply:Thanks Princess....now why in the world was that question removed?! I hope everyone that responds actually reads it, but you and I know better.

Those immigrants did just that! They were thankful to be here, and did everything they could to assimilate, and live by the laws of this land. Those are the people that made this country what it is today! Now, if these peoples would have poured in by the thousands, didn't register, didn't pay taxes and didn't assimilate, this country would have been in its current condition long before now! How in the world are we ever going to get these people to understand that?

Reply:Thanks for repost. and for those of you that forget or haven't learned.............................%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;...

1751 Benjamin Franklin tried to convince Btitish authorities to halt immigration from Germany to the colonies. In Observations concerning the Increase of Mankind..he contended that Britain's mainland possesions would be peopled by natural increase alone, so immigration was unnecessary. "why whould the Palatine {German} Boors be suffered to swarm into OUR SETTLEMENTS, and by herding together establish thir LANGUAGE AND MANNERS TO THE EXCLUSION OF OURS?" he then asked if Pennsylvania would soon become a "Colony of ALIENS" who would Germanize us instead of our Anglifying them; and he predicted they will never adopt our language or customs.

this is from history in the 1700's here is that saying of History repeating itself
Reply:They removed THIS?

Now that is really a stretch.

It is a good sentiment.
Reply:Thanks for the repeat it was kind of you. I think many should see it.
Reply:We still welcome immigrants who will abide by our laws, who will assimilate and become part of our melting pot, who will have an allegiance to the United States..

We don't want people come here illegally, who refuse to assimilate and who demonstrate an allegiance to Mexico.....
Reply:I had not previously seen this and can only imagine it was removed due to an angry immigrant or an illegal. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS QUESTION!

Immigrants used to celebrate being "American". Now so many want to be "Origin-American". I understand you want to celebrate your heritage, but there is a difference between that and thumbing your nose at others.

Either you are American, or you aren't. If you aren't happy being an "American", then go back home!
Reply:Great post! You always have the best questions. I like to read your writings. Thanks for reposting this, its very good.
Reply:If you have never been to Ellis Island-- well you should try to go but until then -- try this link

Ellis Island The Wall of Wonder

What makes this link so dear to me, is that you can enter your family name in the space that is provided and see if any of your ancestry came over and when they came and who they were traveling with - Its very special, I think, but I will let you find that out for yourself
Reply:what are you talking about hexador? I resent that comment, yes that article was well put, but I am Cuban and been living here almost all my life, and have not been a burden to this country. You need to get the facts straight, we have many Cuban congressmen and women serving in the White house. Stop bringing up certain race and focus on the actual issue. Be intelligent and instead of criticizing do something. ( this comment is for solely for hexador) Cubans rule!!!!!!!!!!! We are among the small latin community that actually achieve certain goals and do not put a strain in this country. Hell most of us that emigrate to this country usually within 5-10 years open up a business w/out federal funding.
