Best herbs to make a biggish size herb garden on an allotment.?

i have mint, rosemary, thyme, and a curry plant thing. what else can i use to fill it up and have an enormous herby garden ???

I have an enormous herb garden so in mine are;

Rosemary (blue, white and prostrata) Golden marjoram, Greek oregano, chives, bronze fennel, sweet cicely, angelica, hyssop, lemon balm, lemon verbena, chocolate pepperminti potted, sage, thyme (several varieties) lovage, savory, tarragon and surrounding it all is a lavender hedge :)

Angelica is a lovely annual that grows to about 6 ft and gives a bit of perspective to a herb garden. You can candy the stem and use it on cakes but mostly it looks pretty especially when flowering.



I also have a few weird and wacky things like bergamot (not sure what to use it in but it's very pretty, smells lovely and is quite moderate in its spreading habits)



You definitely need chives and garlic, no?

Sage. (in stuffing)

Sorrel (good in soups). A friend recently gave me some lovely red-veined French Sorrel, which is very pretty as well.

Oregano for putting in salads etc...

Chamomile for the flowers for tea

%26lt; later %26gt; It occurs to me to mention that you can eat the flowers of most herbs as well- mostly in salad: all the allium family (garlic, leek, chive etc..) can be eaten, along with thyme, oregano etc. With this in mind, you might also want to grow some nasturtiums for their flowers, that are delicious in salads! They are a little spicy but slightly sweet, and make a salad look wonderful!
Reply:If you want a really big herb how about a BANANA plant? They will grow from seed to 8ft+ in a year.



Lemon balm is useful for a shady spot, there is a variegated variety which is prettier. Chives will grow anywhere. You can get white flowered chives as well as purple but they are not so good to eat. Rosemary is very hardy. A bay tree can be kept to any size you want. Oregeno and marjoram are easy perennials.



Feverfew is very pretty, but not something you should eat.



Pineapple mint, looks and smells nice. I'm not so sure about the taste of it.



London Rocket can be grown in warm areas. I am not sure wether it is edible.
Reply:Fennel, both the green and the bronze kinds. Garlic, and garlic chives. Lemon balm, makes lovely tea. Lavender. Borage, use the flowers frozen in ice cubes in your drinks. Flowers can be used in salads, it is annual but self seeds. nastersions flowers and leaves in salads.
Reply:Other good ones include Sage, Oregano, Marjoram, Coriander and Parsley. Chives are easy to grow also and produce pretty pink flowers.
Reply:All good sugestions, except maybe the banana plant, they will not grow in the UK.
