Rosemary Whoes?

My rosemary plants always die from the bottom up within a few months. If it lives I have a spindly tall plant that looks like a pathetic pine branch! I live in S. Coatal Georgia near the ocean and an hour north of Jax. Is that part of the problem?

You are watering TOO much or your rosemary is planted in soil that does not drain well or BOTH!! If you have problems with your soil, mulch well or plant in a large pot.



Also, rosemary prefers full sun and a warm location (like near a south-facing fence or near pavement).

Reply:I found the easiest way to kill rosemary is too much water. They are used to a dry Mediterranean climate.
Reply:I live in Cleveland. One year I planted towo small pots of rosemary that grew enormously, I loved it. I didn't give it any extra special attention. No extra watering, etc., the only thing is that I'm in zone 5, so its an annual here. I loved to brush my hands through its soft bushy mounds when I sat in the garden, it gave off the loveliest scent. I should have kept one in the house to have through the winter, but hindsight is 20/20, isn't it. Your environment is too wet.
Reply:I live in Texas and just let rain water keep my rosemary plants alive. They are planted in a barrel that sits on a hot driveway. They love it. I hope that helps...full sun, not much water and well drained soil.
