I LOVE ROSEMARY!!! Help!!?

Rosemary is my very favorite herb, but everytime I buy a plant, it dies shortly afterwards...or it will do great for a bit, and I'll find a perfect place for her, and boom! Dead in a day or two. What is it???

I love it too. Grew one about 6 feet tall. I used to break off stems and throw them in the tub while it filled. Smelled wonderful. Mine was planted next to the house on the north side. Came back every year. Finally dug it up to add room on. But you have made me want another one. The soil was well drained and I watered it about once a week in the summer. Ignored it in the winter. m
Reply:Could be poor soil or sunlight conditions. It may be going through shock after you plant it. Make sure the soil has good drainage.
Reply:It need well drained soil and will do good in pots. Use a good potting mix with fertilizer in it. They also like sun.
Reply:I have them nearly wild here in Portugal. I can just break off a shoot of a bigger bush at ground level or below and stick that in soil with lime mixture. It loves the sunshine and warm feet and non-stagnant water. It 's a lovely herb and shrub. I am sure it can do well in any warm garden with sun.
Reply:Rosemary's very picky about water, and very picky about sun...really, just very picky in general. You don't say if you're putting them in the ground, but if you're not, it might be a good idea to put them in the ground in places that you've found to be "perfect", and see if it takes off a little better there. I sympathize--I can grow the stuff, but my husband's allergic, and the only *lavender* I can grow (they like the same kind of conditions) is that ugly stuff where the flowers look like a purple-winged fly sitting on a green berry...herbs, they're weeds by nature, just plain contrary...

Reply:It depends on where you live. They need lots of sun, and they prefer higher temperatures.
